Four new Mpox cases push Sindh tally to 41

Four new cases of monkeypox (Mpox) have been reported in Sindh within a week, taking the number of confirmed cases in the province this year to 41, health authorities said.

According to hospital officials, the latest case involves a 19-year-old man from interior Sindh who tested positive for the viral disease.

The patient was brought to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital in NIPA on Thursday after developing rashes on his body. His samples were collected and sent for testing, with a PCR test later confirming Mpox.

Following the positive result, the patient was admitted to the hospital's isolation ward, where he is being kept under medical observation.

With the detection of the latest case, the number of confirmed Mpox cases reported in Sindh this year has risen to 41. Of these, 28 cases have been reported from districts outside Karachi, while 13 have been detected in the provincial capital.

Mpox is a viral infection that causes fever, swollen lymph nodes, body aches and painful or itchy skin rashes or lesions, spreading mainly through close physical contact.

Medical experts say Mpox can spread through close physical contact with an infected person, direct contact with skin lesions or exposure to contaminated objects.
