The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued fresh notices to television actress Momina Iqbal and PML-N Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar after new digital evidence emerged in an ongoing online harassment case.
Both Iqbal and Chadhar have been directed to appear before the NCCIA Lahore office on September 14. The agency has also constituted a special investigation team to examine the newly presented evidence and review material collected during the earlier investigation.
The team, headed by an officer of deputy director rank, has been given one month to complete the inquiry and submit its findings to the agency's director general.
Officials said further legal action would be taken in light of the findings of the fresh investigation. They added that it would be premature to declare either party guilty or innocent until the inquiry was completed.
The development came during proceedings before a court on Thursday, when the newly appointed investigating officer informed the court that the direction of the investigation had changed following the presentation of new defence evidence.
The officer also told the court that there was no need to arrest Chadhar or his wife, Sumaira, at this stage.
