England name squad for final Pakistan Test

England have named a 15-member squad for the third and final Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, retaining their winning combination after sealing a 2-0 series lead in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Uncapped pacer Sonny Baker remains in the squad, while Matthew Fisher has been left out of the bowling group for the Birmingham Test, which begins on September 9.

Joe Root will lead the side, with Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sam Cook, Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue among the pace options. Shoaib Bashir provides the specialist spin option, while Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith strengthen the batting line-up.

England wrapped up the series at Lord’s with a 194-run victory after another dominant bowling display. The result lifted them above Sri Lanka to sixth in the World Test Championship standings and revived their campaign following a 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia and a 2-1 home series loss to New Zealand earlier in the summer.

Pakistan, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the WTC table and will aim to avoid a series whitewash when the teams meet in Birmingham.

England won the opening Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs before completing another emphatic victory at Lord’s. The final Test will be played at Edgbaston from September 9 to 13.
