Dangerous buildings face the wrecking ball

Eight dilapidated structures identified in Lyari; two already facing demolition

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has begun demolition of buildings declared dangerous by its Technical Committee on Dangerous Buildings, starting with two severely dilapidated structures in Lyari as part of efforts to prevent loss of life and property.

According to an SBCA spokesperson, eight dangerous sites have been identified in different areas of Lyari Town in District South. Demolition work has formally begun at two locations - Plot no 3940 on Street 6 in Daryaabad, a ground-plus-four-storey structure, and Plot no 2666 in Nayaabad, Street 14, a ground-plus-five-storey building.

The authority said the structures were in an extremely dilapidated and hazardous condition and could collapse at any time. The demolition operation was being carried out with the cooperation of the district administration and other relevant departments to protect residents and prevent a major accident. The SBCA said all eight structures were in a highly dilapidated condition and could collapse at any time, underscoring the need for their removal.
