WASA to install fire hydrants at Faisalabad hospitals

20-plus hydrants planned to strengthen emergency response, protect patients

FAISALABAD:

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has launched a project to install fire hydrants at government hospitals across the city to strengthen emergency preparedness and protect patients and hospital staff.

Under the first phase of the project, four fire hydrants have been installed at different locations in Allied Hospital-I and their testing has been completed.

Work is under way to install 16 more hydrants at other government hospitals.

The initiative follows directions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to strengthen fire-safety arrangements at government hospitals, particularly to protect children and other vulnerable patients during emergencies.

WASA Faisalabad has prepared a plan to install more than 20 fire hydrants at government hospitals and has begun work on the project on an emergency basis.

According to WASA Managing Director Saqib Raza, four hydrants have been installed in front of different wards at Allied Hospital-I.

The remaining installations include four at Allied Hospital-II, two at Children's Hospital, two at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC), two at General Hospital Samanabad, two at General Hospital Ghulam Muhammadabad and two at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Hospital.

He said the installation work at the remaining hospitals was expected to be completed by September 5.

Raza said additional hydrants would also be installed if required at any hospital after assessing its needs.

He said WASA Faisalabad was implementing the chief minister's directives in letter and spirit and would not compromise on measures aimed at protecting human lives during emergencies.
