Four-year-old girl allegedly assaulted, killed

GUJRAT:

A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed before her body was stuffed into a sack and dumped in a rainwater drain in the district's Jalalpur Jattan area, police said on Tuesday.

Police registered an FIR and arrested a suspect following an initial investigation.

Gujrat District Police Officer Faisal Shehzad said the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Faizan, was the girl's paternal aunt's son. He had reportedly come to the family home and taken the child outside on the pretext of playing before allegedly sexually assaulting and killing her.

Following the suspect's identification of the alleged crime scene and his reported confession, police and Rescue 1122 teams launched a search for the child's body in the drain.

After a three-day search, the body of the girl, identified as Noor Fatima, was recovered from the drain near the Ghumman Hanjra area.
