Fake pregnancy, real C-section? Hospital case lands before SHCC

Police have completed their investigation into the alleged use of fake medical reports to perform a caesarean section on a woman at a private hospital in Nazimabad and referred the matter to the Sindh Healthcare Commission for further action.

Meanwhile, the administration of Hamdard Hospital has decided to initiate legal proceedings against the patient's family over alleged vandalism at the facility.

According to hospital spokesperson Mansoor, the situation had become considerably clearer and available evidence showed that the woman was not pregnant. He said a subsequent medical examination also confirmed that she was not pregnant. The spokesperson alleged that the patient's family damaged hospital property following the incident, prompting the administration to pursue legal action. However, the central question remains unanswered: if the woman was not pregnant, why was a C-section performed?

The hospital administration said questions regarding the surgery and the medical assessment could only be determined through an investigation by the SHCC. The spokesperson said it would be inappropriate to reach a final conclusion before the commission completed its proceedings.

SHCC CEO Ahsan Qavi said the commission would conduct a detailed review of all relevant records and medical reports. He said an expert panel would be constituted after the documents had been examined. The panel would comprise doctors from relevant specialties affiliated with different hospitals.

The experts would review the available medical records and reports, after which both the private hospital administration and the patient's family would be given an opportunity to present their positions, Qavi said.
