Hospitals to have emergency officers
The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has sent a letter to the provincial emergency services secretary for the deployment of Rescue 1122 officers in tertiary care hospitals as part of measures to prevent fires in the facilities.
According to a statement, the specialised healthcare department has decided to engage Rescue 1122 for a standard emergency response mechanism to strengthen preparedness, response and coordination in tertiary care hospitals across Punjab.
The main objective of the initiative is to establish a robust, integrated and uniform emergency response system with defined roles, command structure and escalation mechanisms for all hospitals.
The emergency officers will be responsible for standardising and monitoring emergency response protocols.
They will coordinate with the hospital emergency, security, fire safety and other relevant teams.
The officers will also be responsible for conducting regular inspections of emergency exits, fire extinguishers and life safety arrangements.
