Daylight heist at mall leaves three jewellers counting losses

Four to five armed robbers raided three jewellery shops at an RBS Shopping Mall near Saima Shopping Centre on University Road in broad daylight on Sunday, fleeing with gold jewellery worth millions of rupees.

The robbers also opened fire while escaping, triggering panic in the surrounding area, police said.

The incident took place between 1.45pm and 2pm, according to the affected jewellers. A call was also made to police helpline 15 during the robbery, but the suspects had fled by the time police arrived.

The three targeted shops were RBS Jewellers, Ayesha Jewellers and Khadija Jewellers, SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh told The Express Tribune.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the robbery and called the crime scene unit to collect evidence. The unit recovered fingerprints and other clues from the site, while investigators are obtaining CCTV footage to identify and track down the suspects.

SSP Sheikh said none of the three jewellery shops had a watchman or a security guard posted outside.
