Teen electrocuted during drug raid

A 17-year-old boy died of electrocution during a police raid against a drug dealer in Lasi Goth, Malir City, sparking protests by family members and residents who alleged he was tortured to death in custody.

According to police, Malir City Police raided Lasi Goth on a tip-off about the presence of a drug dealer. Police claimed they arrested a suspect identified as Arshad and recovered 55 grams of ice from his possession.

SHO Malir City Riaz Bhutto said that during the raid, the suspect's 17-year-old neighbour, Irshad, tried to flee out of fear and jumped across rooftops. He allegedly became entangled in electric wires and received a fatal electric shock.

"Irshad was shifted to Jinnah Hospital in an unconscious condition, where doctors pronounced him dead," the SHO said.

He clarified that the boy was not tortured or killed in police custody. Police shifted the arrested drug dealer Arshad to the police station. However, the deceased's family rejected the police version. They alleged that police raided their house in Lasi Goth, arrested 8th grade student Irshad, and killed him by applying electric shocks.
