PTI seeks withdrawal of cases against Imran, Bushra

A PTI consultative conference on Sunday unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the withdrawal of "fabricated and politically motivated cases" against PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, protection of the independence and dignity of the judiciary, and provision of Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa's constitutional and financial rights.

The resolution also demanded respect for the province's electoral mandate, payment of its three per cent share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, fulfilment of the state's commitments towards the merged districts and compensation for farmers who, the participants claimed, had suffered losses of around Rs900 billion because of the ongoing wheat crisis.

The conference was attended by PTI leaders, members of the national and provincial assemblies, senators and other party office-bearers from across the country.

Participants discussed the prevailing political situation, supremacy of the Constitution and law, independence of the judiciary, the situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rights of the merged districts, the province's share in the NFC Award and the ongoing wheat crisis.

The resolution was presented by PTI central leader Asad Qaiser and unanimously approved by the participants.

The resolution demanded the immediate withdrawal of all cases against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi and an end to political victimisation.

Expressing concern over "disrespect" for decisions of the Supreme Court and the dignity of the judiciary, the participants demanded that proceedings in contempt of court cases pending before the SC be taken forward in accordance with the law.

They also called for action against all those found responsible for undermining the dignity of the courts, saying the independence and authority of the judiciary must be protected.
