Police course postponed after two ASIs die

LAHORE:

Police authorities have postponed the Elite Orientation Course (EOC) for assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) and SIs following the death of two Punjab Highway Patrol personnel during training at the Elite Police Training School in Lahore.

According to a memorandum issued by the additional inspector general of police (training), the EOC 2026 for SIs and ASIs from across Punjab, which had been scheduled at the training school, has been postponed until further orders. The development came a day after two highway patrol ASIs reportedly died during training at the elite police institution.

The deceased, ASI Syed Tasawwar Shah of Rawalpindi Patrol Police and Arshad, had reported at the training centre on August 24 for the course.

Several officials expressed their reservations on social media over the training conditions.

The personnel questioned the decision to conduct physically demanding training for officials aged above 40 amid intense heat and humidity, particularly when adequate facilities were allegedly not available at the centre.
