Physical remand granted in Hina murder case

A major new development has emerged in the digital designer Hina Javed murder case as the arrested suspect-husband, Sohaib Asghar, turned out to be previously married, with his marriage to Hina being his second.

His first wife was identified as Aram Zeb, who had also obtained a divorce from him on grounds of physical violence. After divorcing Aram Zeb, the suspect contracted a second marriage with Hina Javed.

Meanwhile, SHO Civil Lines Inspector Asif submitted a written report before the court, stating that a screwdriver, allegedly the murder weapon, was to be recovered from accused Zeeshan Arshad. Hina Javed was allegedly killed with the screwdriver, which was used in the murder.

The police also sought recovery of the nikahnamas of both marriages from the suspect-husband and the divorce deed of his first wife.

The two nikahnamas and the divorce deed are to be verified from the respective union council.

The police said that as part of further investigation, they had to recover two nikahnamas, one divorce deed and one screwdriver from the suspects and sought seven-day physical remand.

Civil Judge Nadia Yaqoob, however, approved four-day physical remand for recovery of the nikahnamas from the suspect-husband and the screwdriver from the other accused.

Duty Judge Nadia Yaqoob granted the physical remand, following which police took both suspects to Civil Lines police station.

The court ordered that both suspects be produced before the relevant court on Sept 2 after completion of the investigation. The investigation officer, along with the SHO Civil Lines, appeared before the court and sought seven-day physical remand.

Both suspects had already undergone six-day physical remand. At Saturday's hearing, both appeared cheerful and were seen smiling, looking satisfied. The main suspect-husband, Sohaib Asghar, did not pretend to be mentally ill this time either.

The SHO Civil Lines repeatedly prevented questions from being asked to the suspects and left with them.

At the next hearing on Sept 2, the suspects' polygraph and DNA test reports will also be presented. The suspects did not oppose the physical remand.
