RLNG crunch dims country after dark

ISLAMABAD:

The Power Division said on Saturday that temporary load management of 1.5 to three hours was carried out during the night-time peak hours due to the non-availability of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) and the delayed arrival of a cargo, resulting in a 3,600-megawatt shortfall in power generation.

According to the Power Division spokesperson, electricity generation from Mangla also declined by 195MW, adding to the supply shortfall during the night peak hours.

Furnace-oil-based power plants were also brought into operation during the peak period to meet the country's electricity demand.

The spokesperson said the temporary load management would be reduced as soon as the RLNG cargoes arrived.

Electricity consumers were urged to moderate their power consumption during the night-time peak hours so that load management could be kept to a minimum.

The Power Division clarified that no load management was being carried out during daytime hours. However, areas where load management was being undertaken because of high distribution losses were being supplied electricity according to the schedule.

The Power Division apologised for the temporary load management during the night hours caused by the non-availability of RLNG.
