EOBI says pension hike subject to assessment
.

The Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) has said that any enhancement in its pension is subject to the financial position of the Pension Fund and the outcome of the required actuarial assessment, clarifying its position regarding the demand for an immediate pension increase circulating on social media.
It said in a press release that pensions were increased by 15% in August 2025 with effect from January 1, 2025 in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
This pension enhancement has been granted after a gap of approximately one and a half years. The law provides for consideration of pension enhancement within three years subject to the financial sustainability and actuarial position of the Fund, it said.
"Under Section 21 of the EOBI Act, 1976, any enhancement in EOBI pension is subject to the financial position of the Pension Fund and the outcome of the required actuarial assessment," it added.
"Any further enhancement in the rate of pension can be considered only after completion/recommendation through Acturial valuation and fulfillment of the prescribed legal and institutional process," it said.
