Al Madrigal joins NBC’s Newlyweds with Téa Leoni and Tim Daly

Al Madrigal has joined NBC’s Newlyweds as Dan, the divorced best friend of Tim Daly’s character James

Al Madrigal has joined the cast of NBC’s upcoming comedy series Newlyweds in a recurring role. He will appear alongside series leads Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, as well as recurring guest star Jamie Lee Curtis.

Created by writer and showrunner Gail Lerner, Newlyweds follows Jeanie, played by Leoni, and James, played by Daly, as they begin married life after an unexpected and whirlwind romance.

Jeanie is a free-spirited woman, while James is a more reserved professor who has recently gone through a divorce. After the pair meet unexpectedly at a valet stand, James is drawn to Jeanie and agrees to have dinner with her. Their relationship quickly develops into an impulsive marriage, forcing James to reconsider his plans for a quieter life.

Madrigal will play Dan, James’ divorced best friend. Dan had expected to enjoy his single life, but those plans change following James and Jeanie’s sudden wedding. He also serves as the matchmaker who brings the couple together and subsequently becomes a target of frustration for James’ ex-wife, Claudia, played by Curtis.

The Newlyweds cast also includes Emma Meisel and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio as Jeanie’s adopted children, Poppy and Lolo. Bill O’Neill plays Arvid, James’ assistant in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo.

NBC ordered Newlyweds to series in May alongside The Rockford Files, Line of Fire and Sunset P.I..

Lerner executive produces with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Curtis and Scott Schwartz. Pam Fryman also executive produces the pilot. Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, produces the series.

Madrigal is known for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Lopez vs. Lopez. His other credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Animal Control, Air and The Way Back.
