Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported return to the UK has prompted criticism from some residents in the Cotswolds, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning to put down roots.

The couple reportedly returned to Britain on Wednesday, marking their first alleged return after six years away. Harry and Meghan are expected to continue living as private citizens and will not resume official duties as working royals.

According to reports, some potential neighbours in the Cotswolds have expressed concerns about the couple’s arrival.

During the Daily Expresso podcast on August 26, host JJ Anisiobi discussed reactions from residents after a reporter visited the area.

Anisiobi said some locals were "already furious" about the reported move. One woman, who was identified as living in the area, criticised the couple and said: "They should be banned. They are a disgrace. I think Meghan is an awful, dreadful woman. It can't be easy being in the royal family- they've got their faults as well, but they're two-faced in screaming about privacy."

Another resident reportedly expressed the view that Harry had damaged some of his relationships beyond repair. A separate local raised concerns about the potential impact of the couple's presence on the area's tranquillity.

Royal commentator Caroline Malone also suggested that increased visitor numbers could become a source of tension for residents. "People will not want them there because the Cotswolds now is going to be swarming," she said.

Malone added: "And it's not going to affect Harry and Meghan because they're going to be behind a gated, big, posh, multi-million-pound house somewhere."

She further suggested that increased activity surrounding the couple could create difficulties for local workers.
