CM Maryam Nawaz invited to join Nobel Sustainability Trust initiatives

The Trust praises Maryam’s focus on data-driven climate resilience and technology-enabled governance

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was invited by the Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST) to join its global sustainability leadership initiatives and participate in future international engagements and sustainability summits.

The invitation, extended by NST Chairman Peter Nobel in a letter dated August 22, said the Trust would be “deeply honored” to welcome Maryam to its future international engagements and global sustainability summits.

The Trust said it had followed with “great interest” the Punjab government’s work under Maryam’s leadership in climate resilience, environmental protection, wildlife conservation, forestry and ecosystem restoration, and multi-sectoral air quality management.

“These initiatives reflect a forward-looking vision for sustainable development and have made a meaningful contribution to Pakistan’s environmental progress and long-term resilience,” the letter said.

The NST also praised Maryam’s focus on data-driven climate resilience and technology-enabled governance, highlighting the use of digital monitoring systems, geospatial analytics, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, environmental data platforms and evidence-based decision-making.

The Trust said these measures had strengthened Punjab’s capacity to anticipate climate risks, improve resource management and implement more effective policies.

“This forward-looking approach to climate governance demonstrates how technological innovation can enhance transparency, improve institutional responsiveness, and support resilient, sustainable development in the face of evolving environmental challenges,” the letter said.

The Trust said Maryam’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance while promoting sustainable economic and social development had attracted international attention.

“We believe your experience and leadership would provide valuable insights to the global community and inspire meaningful dialogue among international policymakers, experts, and sustainability leaders,” it said.

The NST described itself as an independent foundation established in Switzerland in 2007 by members of the Nobel family and chaired by Peter Nobel. It said its international summits, Sustainability Awards and strategic partnerships brought together heads of state, government leaders, ministers, international organisations, scientists, business executives, philanthropists and innovators to promote sustainability leadership and scientific collaboration.

The Trust said it was committed to fostering international cooperation and building partnerships among governments, academia, industry, financial institutions and civil society to accelerate progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“We believe that collaboration between visionary leaders is essential to addressing the complex environmental and societal challenges facing our world,” the letter said.

The NST also expressed its hope of developing a “close and enduring collaboration” with Maryam and the Punjab government, saying it shared their commitment to improving the well-being of present and future generations.
