CM pledges support for special-needs children

KARACHI:

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the Milestones Centre for Cognitive and Language Development in Clifton on Tuesday and pledged continued government support for institutions working for the education, rehabilitation and empowerment of people with disabilities.

The centre is a key partner of the Sindh government's Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD).

CM Shah visited various sections of the centre and reviewed educational, therapeutic and rehabilitation facilities available to neurodivergent children.

He also interacted with students and teachers and took an interest in their activities and achievements. He appreciated the institution's efforts to provide quality education, therapy and rehabilitation services to children with special needs.

Fouzia Javed briefed the chief minister that Milestones was established in 1998 and worked to empower people with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delays and Fragile X syndrome through inclusive education and support. She said the centre developed individualised educational and rehabilitation programmes for each child and provided all services free of cost to deserving students.

Speaking at an event organised by the Milestones Charitable Trust, CM Shah said, "every child should have equal access to quality education, therapy and opportunities for success," the chief minister said. By investing in the education and rehabilitation of children with special needs, we can build a society where every individual is empowered."
