Senate told OMC profits to fall, DISCOs installing smart meters

ISLAMABAD:

The 2025 floods caused an estimated loss of Rs853 billion to the economy, and the country received $2.3 million in relief assistance following the floods, the Prime Minister's Office told the Senate in writing during a session chaired by Presiding Officer Shahadat Awan.

In another written response, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik told the Senate that the profits of oil marketing companies (OMCs) would be lower this year compared with the previous year. He said details regarding the profits of oil marketing companies were maintained by the Ministry of Finance.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy informed the upper house that a total of 2,125,296 smart meters had been installed across all power distribution companies (DISCOs).

According to the written response, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) installed the highest number of smart meters at 1,153,556, followed by Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) with 348,135.

Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) installed 229,719 smart meters, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) installed 119,372, and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) installed 111,948.

Peshawar Electric Power Company (Pesco) installed 60,685 smart meters, K-Electric 50,599, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) 19,620, and Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) 13,432.

Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) installed 9,194 smart meters, Hazara Electric Supply Company (Hazeco) 7,659, and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) 1,377.
