'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' set to overtake 'Titanic' in all-time box office rankings

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is closing in on Titanic at the global box office, with the Marvel blockbuster now just tens of millions of dollars away from pushing James Cameron's 1997 classic out of the top five highest-grossing films of all time.

Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, Brand New Day has continued its extraordinary theatrical run into its fourth weekend. The film added $39 million in North America and $109 million internationally over the latest weekend, taking its worldwide total to approximately $2.22 billion.

That leaves Spider-Man: Brand New Day roughly $44 million behind Titanic, which currently sits in fifth place on the all-time global box office chart with around $2.264 billion. If the superhero film maintains its current pace, it is expected to pass Cameron's blockbuster in the coming days.

The achievement would give Brand New Day another major milestone in a record-breaking theatrical run. The film has already become the first movie in the Spider-Man franchise to cross $2 billion worldwide and reached the milestone in just three weekends, making it the second-fastest film ever to do so behind Avengers: Endgame.

Its domestic performance has been equally impressive. Brand New Day has earned more than $854.9 million in the US and Canada, putting it on course to overtake Avengers: Endgame as the second-highest-grossing domestic release ever, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The latest numbers add to a remarkable run that began with a record-breaking opening weekend. The film debuted to around $360 million domestically, surpassing Avengers: Endgame to claim the biggest domestic opening weekend in history. It also became the second-biggest global opening ever, with roughly $932 million worldwide in its first weekend.

The film has continued to break records since then. It crossed $1 billion worldwide in only six days, becoming the second-fastest movie to reach the milestone, and subsequently became the highest-grossing film of 2026.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Holland's fourth solo outing as Peter Parker. The film also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

If Brand New Day overtakes Titanic, it will enter an increasingly exclusive section of the worldwide box office rankings. The film currently sits just behind Ne Zha 2, which has approximately $2.27 billion worldwide, meaning another major jump in the rankings could follow soon after.

The potential Titanic takedown also carries some history. When Avengers: Endgame previously overtook Cameron's film, Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment celebrated the achievement on social media with an image of the Avengers logo sinking the Titanic. Cameron also congratulated Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at the time.

Now, more than a quarter of a century after Titanic first became a box office phenomenon, another Marvel blockbuster is preparing to challenge its place in cinematic history. With Brand New Day still leading the North American box office in its fourth weekend, the gap is rapidly disappearing.
