HBO Max has acquired international rights to Diabolical: The Epstein Files, a new documentary examining the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and the files surrounding the convicted sex offender.
The documentary will premiere internationally on HBO Max beginning September 3, with the rollout covering markets including the U.K., Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia and other territories.
Produced by an international team of filmmakers, Diabolical examines the Epstein case through documents, testimony and previously reported material, focusing on the network of people and institutions surrounding the disgraced financier.
The project arrives as renewed attention continues to surround the Epstein files and the information contained in documents connected to the long-running investigation. The documentary seeks to examine not only Epstein's crimes but also the wider questions surrounding how his activities continued for years despite allegations and investigations.
The HBO Max deal gives the documentary a broad international audience, bringing the project to viewers across Europe and other territories shortly after its premiere.
Diabolical: The Epstein Files is the latest documentary project to revisit one of the most notorious scandals involving a wealthy and powerful social network. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges and died in jail that August while awaiting trial. His death was ruled a suicide.
The case has continued to generate intense public interest because of Epstein's connections to prominent figures in politics, business, entertainment and royalty. The release of additional records over the years has repeatedly prompted renewed scrutiny of those relationships, although appearing in documents or having contact with Epstein does not by itself establish criminal wrongdoing.
With Diabolical, filmmakers are turning that extensive body of material into a documentary intended to examine the broader story behind the files and the unanswered questions that continue to surround the Epstein case.
The documentary will be available internationally on HBO Max from September 3.
