Petitioners' counsel argues accused arrested in politically motivated cases

LAHORE:

An anti-terrorism court has sought arguments on post-arrest bail petitions of PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid and Umar Sarfraz Cheema in cases related to May 9 violence.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul heard the bail petitions and adjourned the proceedings, directing the lawyers to advance their arguments at the next hearing.

Dr Yasmin Rashid has sought bail in two cases and Umar Cheema in three cases, including Jinnah House and Askari Tower attacks.

During the proceedings, the petitioners' counsel argued that the accused had been arrested in politically motivated cases and had no involvement in the incidents of arson and vandalism. The lawyer contended that false cases had been registered against them and the accused had remained behind bars since their arrest.

The counsel urged the court to grant them post-arrest bail, arguing that it was their legal right.

Cases against the leaders were registered at Gulberg, Sarwar Road and other police stations in Lahore.
