Potholes turn Sujawal bypassroad into accident hotspot

Sujawal Bypass Road, a key route used daily by thousands of vehicles travelling to Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar and other cities, has become a major safety hazard due to dangerous potholes that have remained in the middle of the road for more than two years.

The potholes are located in the middle of a bridge built over a drain on the bypass road. Residents said accidents at the site have become routine, resulting in several deaths and leaving many people injured and permanently disabled.

Six days ago, a Mazda and a dumper collided at the same location, killing the Mazda driver, identified as Saber, and injuring five others.

Despite six days having passed since the accident, both damaged vehicles remain on the road, affecting traffic flow and posing a further risk of accidents, residents said.

Local citizens and social activists said that they had repeatedly brought the dangerous pothole to the attention of the relevant authorities and elected representatives.

However, they said no effective measures had been taken to permanently repair the road despite more than two years having passed.

The residents urged the government and relevant authorities to immediately fill the dangerous pothole and carry out permanent repairs on the bypass road.

They also demanded the immediate removal of the accident-damaged vehicles from the road to prevent further accidents and loss of life.
