Prolonged power outages spark protests

KARACHI:

Prolonged power outages triggered protests in Ibrahim Hyderi, Malir, and New Nazimabad, with residents burning tyres and blocking roads, disrupting traffic.

Residents of Ibrahim Hyderi staged a sit-in outside a K-Electric office in protest against a four-day power outage. Protesters said electricity has not been restored despite repeated complaints, causing severe difficulties for residents.

The protesters burned tyres and demanded immediate restoration of power. They said that the prolonged outage had also aggravated the drinking water shortage in the area. Power cuts at Sindh Government Hospital Ibrahim Hyderi were also affecting surgeries and other medical services, they claimed.

The protesters warned that they would expand their protest if electricity was not restored immediately.

They announced plans to gather in large numbers, including women, children and young people, outside K-Electric's head office the following morning and march towards the Karachi Press Club.
