Garden pumping station revived after 21 years

City Mayor and Water Corporation Chairman Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday inaugurated the fully restored Garden water pumping station, which had remained non-operational for 21 years due to the absence of a power connection.

The restoration project cost Rs30.25 million and included repairs to the station's civil structure, panel room, staff room and boundary wall. The two 125-horsepower electric motors were rewound and their ball bearings replaced, while two new motor control boards and various PVC and LT cables were also installed.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Wahab said the pumping station had been installed in 2005 but its machinery could not be made operational because a power connection from K-Electric was unavailable.

He said water supply from the station would begin immediately, with a 24-inch pipeline supplying Nishtar Road, Garden, Ghas Mandi, Ganchi Para, Ranchore Line, Ramswamy and adjoining areas, as well as Mirza Adam Khan Road, Dhobi Ghat, Lyari and surrounding localities. An 18-inch pipeline would supply water to Usmanabad, Badshahi Road, Azim Plaza and adjoining areas, he added.

According to the mayor, the restoration would benefit around 300,000 residents and significantly improve water supply in Garden, Soldier Bazaar, Lyari and nearby areas.
