Poet's humour wins literary praise

ISLAMABAD:

Renowned writers, poets and intellectuals praised Professor Dr Inamul Haq Javed's distinctive humorous poetry, social awareness and command of language at an appreciation ceremony for his Kulliyat-e-Mazahiya Shairi (Collected Humorous Poetry) held at the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), Islamabad.

The ceremony was organised by PAL in collaboration with Bazm-e-Adab Islamabad and attended by a large number of prominent literary figures.

Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khan Khichi was the chief guest, while former Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, former Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz and PAL Chairperson Professor Dr Najiba Arif were the guests of honour.

The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a Naat written by Dr Javed, presented by renowned Naat reciter Sughbatullah Qadri.

Dr Amjad Ali Bhatti highlighted Dr Javed's personality and literary contributions, while Dr Syed Raghib Ali presented selected verses from the Kulliyat and discussed various aspects of his humorous poetry.

Retired Brigadier Dr Safdar Ali Shah described Dr Javed's command of language, refinement and fearlessness as prominent features of his poetry.

Dr Arshad Mahmood Nashad said humour was a means of coping with the difficulties of life, adding that the source of Dr Javed's poetry was his deep study and keen observation of life.
