Shar, Dars clinch Hyderabad Bar's top slots
Advocate Shakir Nawaz Shar and advocate Abdul Razzaque Dars have been elected President and General Secretary, respectively, of the District Bar Association Hyderabad by razor-thin margins of seven votes, with their rivals calling for a recount of ballots cast in the much-delayed election.
The election was held on August 20 at the premises of the District and Sessions Court Hyderabad. The runners-up for both positions, advocate Abdul Malik Shaikh and advocate Naveed Jarwar, have called for a recount of the votes.
According to unofficial results announced by Returning Officer Amel Khan Kasi, Shar secured 681 votes against Shaikh's 674. Dars polled 582 votes, while Jarwar received 575.
The results for the other four office-bearer positions and seven seats of the Members Managing Committee (MMC) have been accepted by all contestants.
Advocate M Amir Qureshi emerged victorious as Vice President, while advocates Faraz Kandhro, Abid Hussain Chang and Pardeep Kumar Soni secured the highest number of votes for Joint Secretary, Library Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
