Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend reportedly asleep in another room when she died
Hayden Panettiere was reportedly found unresponsive at Airbnb while her ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson was asleep nearby

Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson was reportedly asleep in another room when the actress was found unresponsive at an Airbnb in Greenville, South Carolina, according to a report.
Sources cited by TMZ said Panettiere and Hickerson were staying at the rental property when Hickerson’s brother, Zach, found the actress sitting in a chair in the living room. Hickerson was reportedly sleeping in another room at the time.
The brothers then contacted emergency services. An emergency medical team arrived at approximately 1:50 p.m. and attempted to resuscitate Panettiere, who was reportedly in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. on August 16.
Panettiere was 36. She was known for her roles as Claire Bennet in Heroes, Juliette Barnes in Nashville and Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise.
A separate Daily Mail report said Zach declined to comment when approached by a reporter about Panettiere’s death.
"No comment, bro. And with no offense to you and what you're trying to do, this is private property. Please respect our privacy. I'm not going to answer anything that you ask me. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't mind just leaving us alone. I know you're just doing your job," he said.
According to dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE, authorities reportedly used the terms "overdose" and "cardiac arrest" while responding to the incident. However, the information does not establish an official cause of death.
The Greenville Police Department said its preliminary investigation had not found evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
"The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call," a police spokesperson said.
