Olivia Rodrigo has sparked speculation among fans after liking an Instagram post that included a comment comparing emerging singer Audrey Hobert with Taylor Swift.
On Tuesday, August 18, music magazine Pitchfork shared a post about Hobert following her polarising Tiny Desk Concert performance.
One slide included the statement, “The first time I listened to Audrey Hobert‘s Who’s the Clown?, my initial thought was: These sound like the lead singles Taylor Swift doesn’t release anymore. What a joy to hear a pop songwriter with a genuine sense of humor and the confidence to make a song stick after repeated listens.”

Rodrigo’s like led some social media users to interpret the interaction as support for the comment about Swift.
However, a like applies to the entire Instagram post, meaning Rodrigo may only have seen the opening image and may not have read the second slide.
The post’s caption also referenced Swift, comparing Hobert with “early Taylor Swift and Ween”.
The speculation comes amid longstanding discussion about Rodrigo and Swift, particularly surrounding songwriting credits on Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu”.
Rodrigo addressed the speculation during an interview with The New York Times’ Popcast earlier this year.
“I don’t really read that far into it,” Rodrigo said in May. “I think it comes with the territory, and it’s par for the course. I think if I dove into every internet detective sleuth that got things right or wrong about my life or any of my relationships, I think I’d just go crazy. There’s just not enough time in the day.”
There is no confirmation that Rodrigo intended her Instagram like as a criticism of Swift.
