ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed commitment to protecting the fundamental rights and dignity of every individual, as guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973 and the human rights treaties ratified by Pakistan.

In a message on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day being observed on Aug 19, the president said Pakistan joined the international community in honouring the courage, selflessness and dedication of humanitarian workers who served on the frontlines during natural disasters, emergencies and crises.

"As we observe World Humanitarian Day 2026, I extend my appreciation to all social workers, counsellors, healthcare providers, child protection workers and humanitarian personnel serving across Pakistan. Their dedication reminds us of the responsibility we share to assist those in need and to ensure that no one is left without support in times of crisis," he said.

"We are grateful to humanitarian workers who, alongside civil society, security forces and ordinary citizens, remain prepared to respond when communities face emergencies," President Secretariat Media Wing, in a statement, quoted him as saying.

Separately, the prime minister reiterated the commitment to uphold constitutional values and the highest ideals of humanity, both in times of peace and in moments of crisis.

"We will continue to strive to ensure that vulnerable segments of society receive the protection and support they deserve and have opportunities to live with dignity," the prime minister said.

He said on the Day, Pakistan joined the international community in reaffirming its commitment to the noble values of humanitarian service, compassion, human dignity and solidarity.

"Pakistan also pays tribute to all humanitarian workers, institutions and organizations that dedicate their lives to the higher cause of serving humanity," the PM added.
