Bail ruling reserved in husband assault case

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved its decision on a bail petition filed by the father of a woman arrested for allegedly assaulting her husband.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the petition filed on behalf of Amina Saeed, who is accused of assaulting her husband.

The complainant's counsel told the court that the woman had assaulted her husband three times, leaving marks on his body. He said an iron rod allegedly used in the assault had also been recovered from her.

Justice Soomro remarked that the case involved the alleged assault of a member of the force by a woman and asked, "Is this woman a commando?"

The petitioner's counsel argued that even if the woman had hit her husband in anger, "she is the lordship of the house". He said the woman held a PhD in philosophy and that there were several family issues that her client did not wish to be discussed in the court.

The court asked whether the woman had herself taken her husband to hospital after the alleged assault.

The complainant's counsel further alleged that the woman had also assaulted the couple's two daughters.

The court asked the investigating officer whether the woman's mental health had been assessed after her arrest. The officer replied that it had not.
