DIJKOT:

Police have arrested six suspects, including a newborn girl's mother, sister and a couple, for allegedly selling the infant and alleging her kidnapping from a health centre.

According to the police, Saadia Bibi, a resident of 50-G/B, allegedly sold her newborn daughter to Parveen Bibi of 51-G/B for Rs15,000 around 15 days ago, with the alleged assistance of her sister, Iqra.

The police said Parveen and her husband, Irfan Masih, later allegedly sold the baby to their relative Ghazi Sikandar and his wife Ropachana in Lahore for Rs50,000.

Saadia subsequently reported that her daughter had been kidnapped from a government health centre in the 50-G/B area.

During the investigation, the police discovered that the infant had been sold rather than kidnapped. The police conducted raids in Faisalabad and Lahore and arrested the six suspects. An investigation against them was under way.

Meanwhile, a robber was injured and arrested during an alleged encounter with police in Chak Jhumra.

According to police, three suspects allegedly attempting a robbery near Dyal Garh opened fire at a Dolphin Force team after seeing it. The team retaliated and informed Chak Jhumra SHO Rizwan Shaukat who reached the spot with additional personnel. During the exchange of fire, 46-JB resident Ishaq, son of Yaqoob, was injured by firing allegedly from his accomplices.
