RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab School Education Department has approved the complete replacement of the existing curriculum for Classes I to V in the primary section from the start of the new academic session on April 1, 2027.

A new curriculum has already been prepared and sent to the Punjab Chief Minister's Secretariat for final approval. It is expected to be placed before the provincial Cabinet for approval at its next meeting.

Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar told leaders of the Punjab Teachers' Union during a meeting that the new curriculum had been finalised and that every primary class would have new course content from the new academic session.

He said the new curriculum had been simplified, while the number of textbooks had been reduced to lessen the academic burden on pupils. Greater emphasis had also been placed on information technology and computer education.
