MIRANSHAH:

Unidentified people gunned down a police constable in Bannu on Sunday. According to police, Constable Saifullah Khan, a resident of Sorani, was returning home after performing duty at the Mirzabit Shah Sorani Township police post when armed men ambushed him as he entered the village.

The attackers opened indiscriminate fire, hitting the constable multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the assailants managed to escape immediately after the attack.

The funeral prayers for the martyred constable were offered at the Bannu Police Lines with full official honours. DPO Bannu Captain (retd) Furqan Bilal, senior police officers and personnel, members of the deceased's family and others attended the funeral.

The DPO laid a floral wreath on the coffin and paid tribute to the martyred constable, while a smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, DPO Bilal expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said police martyrs were a valuable asset of both the nation and the police force.

He said their sacrifices would never be forgotten, adding that the police were determined to avenge the blood of their martyrs and continue the fight against terrorism to the last.

The DPO said Bannu Police considered itself a family and regarded the families of its martyrs as part of that family. He assured the bereaved family that the police would never leave them alone and would provide them with all possible assistance and support.

Following the attack, security was tightened across the area. Police launched a search operation and investigation to trace and arrest the attackers.
