'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' hits $2B in record-breaking box office run

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office, becoming one of the fastest movies ever to reach the milestone.

According to Variety, the latest Sony and Marvel superhero film has earned $2.022 billion worldwide after just three weekends in cinemas. The Tom Holland-led movie has collected approximately $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion internationally.

The achievement places Spider-Man: Brand New Day among a select group of films that have surpassed $2 billion globally. The list includes Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War.

The film is now the eighth-highest-grossing movie in worldwide box office history. It is also the second-fastest movie to reach $2 billion, trailing only Avengers: Endgame, which achieved the milestone in just 11 days.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which marks Tom Holland’s fourth solo appearance as Peter Parker, has delivered enormous numbers since opening in theatres at the end of July. The superhero movie earned a record-setting $355 million in its North American opening weekend and $932 million worldwide.

The film then crossed $1 billion globally within only six days, further demonstrating the strength of the Spider-Man franchise.

The latest box office success also puts Brand New Day within striking distance of several historic records. The movie could potentially challenge Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the highest North American box office total, currently at $936 million.

With strong audience interest and continued box office momentum, industry watchers are also questioning whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day could eventually become the first movie to earn $3 billion worldwide.
