Nighat wants to be judged as a doctor, not as ex-CM's daughter

Dr Nighat Shah, daughter of former chief minister Qaim Ali Shah, has urged critics to judge her on the basis of her professional qualifications and medical services rather than her family background, following a three-year extension in her position.

Dr Nighat Shah has faced criticism on social media after being granted the extension, with some circles linking the decision to her father's political background. However, she said her performance and the developments achieved at the Jinnah Hospital gynaecology department over the past three years should be considered before drawing conclusions.

Dr Nighat said criticism of any individual or institution should be based on facts and performance. She said the gynaecology department faced severe shortages of resources, budget and staff when she assumed responsibilities, but various medical services have since been restored, introduced and expanded.

She said special attention has been given to critical care for women facing complications during childbirth, including severe bleeding, high blood pressure, sepsis and other life-threatening conditions. Female doctors are being trained in medical and surgical intensive care, including patient positioning, oxygen and fluid management and treatment of different types of shock.

Collaboration with cardiology specialists has also been strengthened to improve the management of pregnant women with complex heart conditions, she said.
