Two former government-backed peace committee members killed in K-P’s Tank

Tank DPO says the victims have been identified as Azizur Rehman and Mohammad Gul

At least two former members of a government-backed peace committee were killed by unidentified assailants at a hotel in Jandola city of Tank district in southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the police said on Friday.

Tank District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Samad Khan said, “The victims were identified as Azizur Rehman and Mohammad Gul alias Sangri,” adding that they were former members of the government-backed peace committee.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the DPO revealed that Mohammad Gul was the brother of Nasrullah, who currently heads the peace committee in the area.

Khan said police had initiated an investigation into the incident that took place inside a hotel and were working to determine the motive behind the killings and identify the assailants.

According to police, the bodies were taken to the hospital by Rescue 1122 personnel for medico-legal formalities.

On July 25, the military's media wing reported that at least 15 security personnel and a government official were martyred after terrorists belonging to the "Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khwarij" attacked a joint police check post in Tank district.

In May, security forces killed four terrorists belonging to the "Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij” in an intelligence-based operation in Tank.
