Historic chandelier at Mazar-e-Quaid set for restoration

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture and Chairman of the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board Aurangzeb Khan Khichi chaired the 102nd meeting of the board on Thursday, where the restoration of the historic chandelier at Mazar-e-Quaid and improved facilities for visitors came under discussion.

The meeting considered the restoration of the chandelier and its proposed transfer to the National Museum, along with the introduction of a shuttle service to Bagh-e-Quaid for visitors, according to a statement.

Speaking at the meeting, Khichi urged the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) to treat the restoration project as a matter of national service rather than viewing it solely from a commercial perspective.

He said the historic chandelier had been removed from its original location in 2016 and its restoration had repeatedly been delayed because of financial and administrative hurdles linked to NESPAK's proposal.

The minister also appreciated Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah for his cooperation with the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board, saying his support had helped facilitate the maintenance of the Mazar-e-Quaid and the board's affairs in Karachi.

The proposed shuttle service at Bagh-e-Quaid was also discussed as part of efforts to make access to the mausoleum easier for visitors and improve their overall experience.
