Walsh, who plays David Hollander, let slip that the cast is preparing to film 12 episodes for the new season

Heated Rivalry star Dylan Walsh has paused his Cameo account after a video he recorded for a fan went viral and appeared to reveal a major detail about the show's upcoming second season.

Walsh, who plays David Hollander, the father of Hudson Williams' Shane Hollander, seemingly let slip that the cast is preparing to film 12 episodes when he spoke about returning to Canada to continue production.

In clips from the Cameo video, Walsh says he is "getting ready to go back up to Canada and shoot some more episodes" before adding, "I think we're doing 12 this time." The comment immediately caught the attention of fans because the first season consisted of just six episodes.

The revelation has fuelled speculation that seasons 2 and 3 could be filmed back-to-back, or that the upcoming season could be split into two parts. Creator Jacob Tierney has previously indicated that he prefers keeping Heated Rivalry seasons to six episodes, telling the Los Angeles Times that he would rather keep the show tightly focused than make it too long.

Walsh appears to have realised that he had said more than he was supposed to. His Cameo profile now says that he is stepping away because a video "went viral" and "got me in trouble", with the account unavailable for personalised videos until August 2027.

The situation has an amusing connection to the story being adapted for season 2. The upcoming season is primarily based on Rachel Reid's The Long Game, which includes a plot point involving a video going viral on a Cameo-like platform. Walsh's real-life slip therefore echoes an element of the story his show is adapting.

Season 2 will continue the story of Shane and Ilya Rozanov, played by Connor Storrie, as they navigate their relationship several years after the events of the first season. Walsh is expected to return as David, while Christina Chang will reprise her role as Shane's mother, Yuna Hollander.

The new season will also introduce Charlie Gillespie as Troy Barrett and Justice Smith as Harris Drover, another couple from Reid's Game Changers books.

Heated Rivalry season 2 is expected to premiere in spring 2027, with production now underway. For now, Walsh's accidental Cameo reveal has left fans wondering whether his "12 episodes" comment has exposed plans for more than one season being filmed at the same time.
