Drew Barrymore reunited with flight attendant who supported her during difficult period when she stopped drinking

Drew Barrymore has reunited with a flight attendant who comforted her during a difficult period in her sobriety journey.

The emotional reunion took place during the Wednesday, August 12, episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, when Barrymore recognised the woman in the studio audience.

The pair had first met around four years earlier during a flight, when Barrymore was going through a difficult period in her life.

"When I met you, you were crying in my galley," the flight attendant recalled, showing Barrymore a photograph from their meeting. "And we sat in my galley, and you cried and cried because you were going through so much. You were just bawling, and I just was holding you."

Barrymore then joined her in the audience and embraced her before reflecting on the circumstances surrounding their first meeting.

"That was a really, really hard year; it was actually the year I stopped drinking," Barrymore said.

The actress explained that becoming sober did not immediately resolve the difficulties she was facing at the time.

"When you stop drinking, it's not like all your problems go away; there's still a ton of work to be done," she said.

Barrymore also told the studio audience, "I knew for me that was my number one problem in life. Alcohol was a poison for me, and I turned to it because I didn't want to feel. I felt better when I drank, so I would turn to it."

As the reunion continued, Barrymore thanked the flight attendant for allowing her to be open during their original meeting and for reconnecting with her years later.

"There was a reason we met that day; thank you for letting me be so honest and transparent with you then, and thank you for being that with me now," she said.

"I love you, and I'm so glad we're here today talking about this," Barrymore added before embracing the woman again as the audience applauded.

Barrymore has previously spoken publicly about sobriety, describing giving up alcohol as "one of the most liberating things in my journey of life".
