Paris Jackson breaks silence on why she ended her engagement to Justin Long

Paris Jackson says therapy helped her recognise that personal needs mattered despite Justin Long being a good person

Paris Jackson has opened up about the decision to end her engagement to Justin Long, explaining that the breakup ultimately came down to recognising that being with a good person was not enough to make the relationship right for her.

During an episode of Call Her Daddy, Jackson, 28, spoke candidly with host Alex Cooper about the difficult process of ending her relationship with Long. She described the decision as something she needed to make for her own happiness after repeatedly questioning whether she should continue trying to make the relationship work.

Jackson said there were moments when she attempted to end the relationship but found herself wondering whether staying longer could eventually improve things. She explained that she has a strong need for certainty when making major decisions, which contributed to her taking time before finally walking away.

The daughter of the late Michael Jackson revealed that she had also previously called off another engagement, making her decision involving Long her second broken engagement. She described the first relationship as emotionally significant to her despite the circumstances surrounding it, while acknowledging that the experience was very different from her relationship with Long.

Jackson and Long became engaged in December 2024 after dating for around two years. Jackson announced the engagement publicly through an Instagram post celebrating Long's birthday, although the couple later split in 2025.

In discussing the breakup, Jackson said therapy, conversations with a clinical psychologist and guidance from people close to her helped her examine why she was staying in a relationship that no longer felt right. According to Jackson, those conversations forced her to consider whether her reasons for remaining with Long were strong enough.

She said she eventually understood that a person could be kind, loyal and fundamentally good while still failing to meet the needs she considered essential in a romantic relationship. Jackson stressed that certain personal requirements were valid and did not need to be dismissed simply because the other person was not behaving badly.

That realisation appears to have played a major role in her decision to end the engagement. Rather than waiting for circumstances to change, Jackson chose to prioritise her own happiness and accept that compatibility involves personal needs as well as affection and respect.

Jackson also spoke about her outlook on marriage following the breakup. When Cooper asked whether another engagement could be possible in the future, Jackson said she was uncertain. She explained that she is trying to focus on the present instead of becoming consumed by plans for the next several decades of her life.

The singer said she has become more conscious of enjoying her current life rather than constantly thinking about where she expects to be years from now. Her comments suggest that marriage is not currently something she feels compelled to pursue, although she has left the possibility open.

Jackson also kept details of her current romantic life private, simply describing herself as happy when discussing her relationship status.
