TWICE member Chaeyoung has announced that she will leave JYP Entertainment, becoming the second member of the K-pop girl group to depart from the agency.

Chaeyoung, whose full name is Son Chae-young, made the announcement on Instagram on Thursday, August 13.

The 27-year-old singer and rapper said she is preparing to begin a new chapter while working on her project, Lil Fantasy.

Chaeyoung wrote, “I want to deeply thank everyone at JYP and Team Twice for believing in and supporting me over the past 14 years.”

She also expressed her appreciation for her groupmates, saying, “And to my Twice members, who are always my strength and biggest supporters, thank you, and I love you beyond words.”

Addressing concerns about TWICE’s future, Chaeyoung assured fans that “nothing changes” with the nine-member group.

She added, “Everything I’ve received is thanks to my time as Twice, which will always be my roots.”

Chaeyoung also described Lil Fantasy as “a world where I can explore and build my music” and said she is “excited to step into a new chapter”.

Her new agency has not been disclosed as of the time of the announcement.

Chaeyoung’s departure comes days after fellow TWICE member Jeongyeon announced that she had left JYP Entertainment and signed with Varo Entertainment.

Jeongyeon’s move followed her 14 years with JYP Entertainment, while Chaeyoung’s announcement means the solo contract status of Nayeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Tzuyu remains unclear.

TWICE will continue as a nine-member group, according to Chaeyoung’s statement.
