Lucy Davis supported by 'The Office' co-stars after revealing cancer diagnosis

Lucy Davis has received messages of support from celebrity friends and former co-stars after revealing that she was diagnosed with Stage Four breast cancer a year and a half ago.

The British actress, best known for playing Dawn in the original UK version of The Office, announced her diagnosis on Instagram on Tuesday. Davis, 53, said the cancer had metastasised to her bones and described it as “incurable”.

Her post prompted messages from fans, friends and colleagues, including several actors she has worked with throughout her career.

Ricky Gervais, who starred alongside Davis in The Office, responded with a heart emoji. Kiernan Shipka, Davis’ co-star in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, wrote, “I love you so much Lucy.”

Amanda Abbington, who was previously married to Davis’ The Office co-star Martin Freeman, also shared a message of support.

“Sending you the biggest cuddle and all my love, love, love, love, love. You are and have always been an incredible f**ken woman. I adore you. What larks we had when we worked together. Here if you need anything,” she wrote.

Jenna Fischer, who played Pam in the US version of The Office, praised Davis for saying she still wanted to work while living with cancer.

“Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let's spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!” Fischer wrote.

Fischer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and was declared cancer-free the following year after undergoing treatment.

Other celebrities also shared messages for Davis. Sarah Paulson described her as “full of magic”, while The Big Bang Theory actor Simon Helberg called her “an incredible force”. Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville referred to her as the “best of us”, while original Sabrina star Melissa Joan Hart offered Davis “love, prayers and big hugs”.

Davis said in her announcement that it was “too late for chemo” and that she was “at peace” with whatever happens next.
