The Office star Lucy Davis reveals devastating Stage 4 cancer diagnosis

Lucy Davis, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the original U.K. version of The Office, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.

Davis shared the news in an Instagram post, explaining that she was diagnosed about a year and a half ago after discovering a lump in her breast. She said the cancer had metastasised to her bones, including her spine, right hip and ribs.

According to Davis, her cancer is incurable and she said it is now “too late for chemo.” She also shared that she is focused on making the most of the time ahead while continuing to approach her circumstances with humour.

“The thing that has been most vital to me is humour,” Davis wrote, explaining that she has encouraged friends and family to joke with her and not treat her as a sick person.

Davis also said she is not afraid of what comes next and that she is at peace with her situation. Despite her diagnosis, the actress said she would like to continue working and remains able to act.

“I’m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life,” she said.

Davis became widely known for portraying receptionist Dawn Tinsley on The Office U.K., which starred Ricky Gervais and Martin Freeman. Her character developed a relationship with Freeman’s Tim Canterbury, culminating in the series’ Christmas special finale.

Beyond The Office, Davis has appeared in films including Shaun of the Dead and Wonder Woman. She is the daughter of British comedian Jasper Carrott.

In her message, Davis also offered support to others living with cancer, acknowledging the physical and emotional challenges associated with the disease.
