Social media pages apologise to Sharjeel, son

NCCIA summons four over alleged dissemination of unverified, defamatory content

Several social media pages have apologised to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son, Rawal Sharjeel, after publishing posts containing what they later acknowledged was false or unverified information about the Mir Raza Ali murder case.

Separately, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Karachi has summoned four individuals in connection with allegations of disseminating fabricated and defamatory content on digital platforms.

The individuals - Syed Abdullah, Amin Qureshi, Bilal Warsi and Obaid Qureshi - have been directed to appear before the NCCIA Karachi office at 11.30am on August 13.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page Karachi Stories issued a clarification and apology over a post concerning the Mir Raza Ali case that referred to Sharjeel Memon.

According to the page, the information had been obtained from social media sources but was later found to have not been independently verified. The page acknowledged that publishing unverified information was inappropriate and apologised to Sharjeel and other relevant people.

The page said the post was removed within hours after questions were raised about the authenticity of the information. It also pledged to publish content in the future only after verification from reliable sources.

Another Facebook page, Karachi Wines, also issued a clarification and apology to Sharjeel and his son, Rawal, over a post published the previous day.
