Chrissy Metz has revealed that she is taking a GLP-1 medication after previously losing 100 pounds, explaining that years of dieting had not worked for her.

The 45-year-old This Is Us actress discussed her decision in an interview with People. Metz said she considered several approaches before turning to medication.

“I’m not getting any younger,” she said. “I’m in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me.”

Metz, who has partnered with digital health company Ro, did not reveal when she began taking the medication or which specific GLP-1 she uses. However, she described her experience so far as “great”.

“It’s so nice not to be obsessing about what I’m going to have every minute, even as I’m still consuming the meal,” she said. “I just vilified food for so long because I was taught that it was bad, and you shouldn’t eat this or that.”

Metz acknowledged that some people may criticise her decision but said their opinions do not affect her.

“It doesn’t matter, because like I always say, they’re not in my life,” she explained. “They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has.”

She continues to work with a trainer to build muscle and said she has not set a specific weight-loss target.

“I’m just a regular old girl who is trying her best,” she said.

In April 2025, Metz said she had lost 100 pounds through strength training. She now says her decision regarding weight-loss medication is personal.

“It’s something I feel like, it is so personal and sure, I think it’s important to like destigmatize anything,” she said. “But I also think it’s people’s personal decision to decide what it is that they want to do for their body.”

Metz also spoke about her support system and how her life has changed throughout this journey, on TODAY with Jenna and Sheinelle.
