Dog attacks leave 25 injured in a single day

Dog-bite incidents have increased alarmingly in Hala and other parts of Matiari district, with 25 people, including women and children, injured in attacks by stray dogs in Odero Lal in a single day.

Several people, including Mir Muhammad, Safdar Ali, Waqar Chhutto and Sikandar Khosa, were injured in the attacks. The injured also included Sameera Solangi, Jaindi Khosa, Ibrahim Sheikh, Sagar Kolhi and Anjali.

According to the District Health Officer (DHO), 25 cases of stray-dog attacks were reported at a local hospital. Fifteen victims were provided anti-rabies vaccines and first aid before being discharged, while 10 others were referred to hospitals in Hyderabad for further treatment.

Health Department data showed that 1,443 dog-bite cases were reported across Matiari district during the past three months. Of these, 406 cases were reported in April, 511 in May and 526 in June, making June the month with the highest number of cases during the period.

In Hala taluka, 398 dog-bite cases were reported during the three-month period. The number rose from 87 cases in April to 164 in May, before slightly declining to 147 in June.

According to the Health Department, 40 dog-bite victims were referred to other hospitals for further treatment during the three months.

The rising number of stray-dog attacks has caused widespread fear among residents across the district, particularly women and children.
