Unknown gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at the party office of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Qadir Patel in Clifton Block 5 on Monday, police said, adding that no casualties were reported in the incident.

According to the PS Boat Basin SHO, seven 9mm bullet casings were recovered from the scene, while the assailants, travelling in a Fortuner, fled towards Boat Basin after the firing.

Sharing further details, police officials said the suspects stopped outside the office gate and opened fire before escaping. Three bullets pierced through the main gate, which is frequently used by MNA Patel.

Upon receiving information, SHO Muhammad Riaz Niazi reached the spot along with a heavy police contingent, while a forensic team was also called in to collect evidence.

CCTV footage obtained from cameras installed around the office shows the SUV arriving at the location, after which the occupants stepped out and opened fire at the gate before fleeing.

Police recorded statements of security guards and watchmen present at the office at the time of the incident. No immediate case was registered.

In his initial statement, MNA Patel said he had no known enmity with anyone and had not received any prior threats.

Investigations are under way.
