Jacob Elordi could join Scarlett Johansson in Ari Aster’s next A24 thriller

Jacob Elordi is in talks to star alongside Scarlett Johansson in Scapegoat, the upcoming A24 film from filmmaker Ari Aster.

The project is being kept largely under wraps, with details about the plot yet to be officially revealed. Early speculation has suggested several possible storylines, including a thriller about a doctor operating on an internet-famous person, a science-fiction romance or a more traditional drama.

Aster has written and will direct Scapegoat, with Lars Knudsen producing through the filmmaker’s Square Peg banner. Johansson, who is also an Academy Award nominee, is already attached to lead the film.

Elordi’s potential casting comes after a notable year for the Australian actor. He earned an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, released by Netflix. He also received another Golden Globe nomination for his role in Prime Video’s limited series The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

The actor also starred opposite Margot Robbie in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights. The Warner Bros. adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel became a box office success, earning more than $240 million worldwide against an $80 million production budget.

Elordi recently completed his role as Nate Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria, which concluded with its third and final season. His performance in the series helped establish him as one of Hollywood’s prominent young actors.

The actor’s next major project is Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller for 20th Century Studios. Based on Peter Heller’s novel, the film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on Aug. 28.

If confirmed, Scapegoat would mark another major collaboration for Elordi and add to Aster’s growing filmography following Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid.
